FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):
EX: The article cites Maria Nikolajeva, a professor of at Cambridge, as saying that Bella does not "in any way promote independent thinking or personal development" in women, instead portraying a woman "meek and willing to do anything for her vampire boyfriend" (POV).
This author touches on the fact that many people base their arguments for pro-life and pro-choice on ethnic and religious backgrounds and states that "ethnic and religious concerns have been included in debate, but those have no right to influence the right of choice that the women have" (Hamilton).
The author also includes a previous court case that increases her credibility, she refers to the Roe vs. Wade and the result, "which actually made abortion legal" (Hamilton). This shows that the speaker knows he rhistory and when abortion was made legal.
She continues to inform the reader on how one can receive an abortion safely and properly, by referring to a place known as Planned Parenthood, where they "discuss in detail the procedure of abortion and the possible risks, outcomes, and time in which they can be performed" (Hamilton). Clearly she has done her research since she has an outlet for those who need an abortion.
She provides more options for women who need a solution, that "information on the topic can be requested and provided by lots of different sources. Women can also refer to physicians as well as private and public organizations and societies to help them address any concerns that may appear" (Hamilton). This shows that the author's intention is to help her audience and inform them by providing solutions.

She justifies herself as a non-bias writer by stating, "Providing abortion information to women means giving them choice and the most accurate abortion information is being presented to women by the health care providers as they are just in the right position for doing this" (Hamilton). Her understanding and ambiguity on the topic helps with her credibility because she does not show bias.

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):
The source basically gives options for women as to how they may decide whether or not they want an abortion. It gives examples for places that they can go and options that they have for whether they are pro-life or pro-choice. The source only wishes to inform women on how they may approach the problem of dealing with an abortion.

Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?
Megan Hamilton, she does not seem to have any training and she does not cite any references. This takes away from her credibility but it is a website about medical issues. The purpose of the site is to inform, and ezine articles funds it.

Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?
No, the author does not, it is simply informative she has nothing to gain.

Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?
No, the author does not favor either side, she argues that women have the right to choose whether they wish to abort or keep their child.

References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
The author does not cite references, this does take away from her credibility.

Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?
I may use this source as an example for why certain websites cannot be trusted with abortion information because  although this author does not have a bias perspective, she is not well informed and clearly does not seem very educated given her bad use of language and very general perspective on the topic. She does not get into specifics on the topic.

For most women, abortion is known to have serious "physical, emotional and spiritual consequences", and the majority of them claim that they "wish they had been told all of the facts about abortion and its risks" (Option Line).
Physical risks include, "bleeding, infection and damage to organs." The website goes on to explain that as the fetus develops more, the procedure becomes more risky, "medical complications occur infrequently in early abortions, but increase with later abortions" (Option Line).
Although the website explains that bleeding after an abortion is common, another form of "bleeding known as hemorrhaging" which "one in 100 women use surgery to stop the bleeding" (OL).
The damage to the organs that the website also explains that the "cervix and/or uterus may be cut, torn, or damaged by abortion instruments" which can lead to "excessive bleeding requiring surgical repair" (OL).
Another rare complication that may occur in abortion includes death, "In extreme cases, complications from abortion (excessive bleeding, infection, organ damage from a perforated uterus, and adverse reactions to anesthesia) may lead to death" (OL).

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):
This website widely discusses the dangers that come with abortion and why or why not a person should go through with one. It provides detailed information on when an abortion may be performed safely and when it runs a higher risk of complications. It strictly sticks to facts and how one may safely get an abortion if they feel they want one.

Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?
The author is not given, and Option Life seems to fund the site. They do cite many sources that are legitimate and the purpose of the site is simply to inform the audience about abortions in general.

Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?
It is simply informative.

Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?
There is no bias in this article.

References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
Yes the author cites references in the writing and they definitely add to the credibility, they cite many sources.

Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?
This article can be used for the logos part of my project, simple facts that I can state about abortion are abundant in this article.

FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):

Planned parenthood very strongly believes that "Abortion is a safe and legal way to end pregnancy" (P.P.) and stands behind that, making a stance as pro-choice.
According to planned parenthood, "There are two kinds of abortion in the U.S.- in-clinic abortion and the abortion pill" (P.P.) they further support pro-choice by giving options for abortion.
Planned parenthood gives support to pro-choice through an attempt by popular fallacy, "Abortions are very common. In fact, more than 1 out of 3 women in the U.S. have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old" (P.P.), so if everybody is doing it, so can I.
Planned parenthood also takes a side with pro-life, showing ambiguity, they say that "If you are trying to decide if abortion is the right choice for you, you probably have many things to think about.. learn more about parenting and adoption" (P.P).
Again they show that they are not bias by stating that, "Only you can decide what is best for you. But we are here to help" (P.P.).

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):

Planned parenthood is an organization that attempts to provide help for those who are pregnant whether or not they want an abortion. They have locations all over the country and are willing to work with anyone to help them make a decision and the process after. I do not know why they do this besides the fact that they would like to help people with their pro-life or pro-choice decisions.
Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?

I do not know who the author is or what training they have had. From funds, the only thing that I can determine is the donations they receive. It is .org, so they are non-profit I assume. Maybe the government helps with funding.
Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?

It is simply informative, its only purpose seems to be to help others.
Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?

At first I thought that the website was pro-choice, but when I read more I was able to understand that they also address those who are pro-life and solutions towards how to take care of a child if kept.
References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?

From what I can see, no other sources are cited. This does subtract from the credibility but it seems like a very legitimate organization, one that I have heard of before. So I do think it is a credible site.

Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?

This source can be used to see from both sides of the spectrum. It addresses arguments for pro-life and pro-choice, and offers solutions for both.

FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):
Many women receive abortions every year, "nearly 1.2 million American women have an abortion to end a pregnancy", there are many different reasons for abortion, including "birth control failure... inability to support or care for child... prevent the birth of a child with birth defects or serious medical problems... pregnancy resulting from rape or incest" (Suzanne R Trupin).
In order to receive an abortion, one must take a physical exam to take "your vital signs, such as blood pressure and heart rate". The doctor must also perform "a pelvic exam to determine the size and shape of your uterus. The size of the uterus can help estimate the number of weeks you are pregnant... also allows your doctor to check the ovaries and fallopian tubes for a possible tubal pregnancy"(Suzanne R Trupin).
Different states have different laws concerning what age a child may get an abortion, "In some states, women yougner than 18 will need a parent's permission", or minors can receive a "court order that will allow an abortion without parent's consent" (Suzanne R Trupin).
Two methods can be used to receive an abortion, for the first nine weeks of pregnancy a woman can get a "Medical abortion" which consists of "the use of medicines to end a pregnancy... A typical treatment schedule for a medical abortion usually requires at least two visits to your doctor over several weeks... Vaginal bleeding may last about 14 days" (Susanne R Trupin).
The second method that may be used for an abortion is a "surgical abortion" which "ends a pregnancy by surgically removing the contents of the uterus". Prior to a surgical abortion, the patient needs to undergo a "physical exam and lab tests" (Susanne R Trupin).

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):

This article is a basic informative article on abortions. It covers the topic in general and is written by Susanne Trupin, who has experience in the medical field. The article includes statistics, basic information about types of abortions, how long you can wait before it is too late to have an abortion and more.

Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?

The author is Susanne Trupin, an MD that graduated from Stanford University and is a trained and certified gynecologist. She works at the University of Illinois. The purpose of the site is to inform people about abortions and it is funded by e medicine health.

No I do not think the article has any bias.

References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?

She does cite a few sources, but I do not think they have any bias either. So I do not think it takes away any credibility.

Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?

I will use it for my powerpoint mostly. It can give a lot of background information on abortions, I can begin by stating statistics and general facts about abortions which this article contains a lot of.
